FCC establishes bureau for public safety, homeland security

FCC commissioners today announced the launch of a new Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau focused on addressing the communications needs of the nation’s first responders. Charged with heading the commission’s efforts on public-safety issues such as spectrum policy, E-911, interoperability and completion of the 800 MHz rebanding project, the new bureau is operational as of today with 90 employees, an FCC spokesperson said.
