Wireless meter reading gets a boost

Trilliant, a provider of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) solutions based on open standards, and Motorola announced that they have co-developed a wireless meter-reading platform that combines Trilliant's CellReader solution with Motorola's iDEN-based Harmony wireless communications system to support energy-usage data collection. The collaboration is part of Motorola's strategy designed to offer additional applications — for instance, fixed data applications — that utilities can run over their private networks, said Jim Hanson, energy and utility industry principal for the company's enterprise mobility business.
